Why We Made This
Uplief, which is a combination of “uplift” and “relief”, was founded when the two founders, Kang and Terence, were both facing stress from working too much on the computer, and suspected carpal tunnel syndrome. In particular, Terence is also an avid tennis player who had to reduce his playing intensity, while Kang, a tech executive, put some work on hold from his laptop due to the consistent pains in his palms.
Well into the wrong side of their 30s, they’ve tried many solutions and therapies, but could not find an effective solution for their pains. Hence, they set out to search for the best type of compression gloves, which could support their ongoing lifestyles without invasive actions such as surgery. After trying 20+ brands and types, they finally found something that had hope to alleviate their problem.
They loved the product so much that they decided to ignite the entrepreneurial streak they always had and bring this product to beyond their friends and relatives, out into the Singapore market where many fellow Singaporeans are facing the same issue. Having been in e-commerce product development before, they quickly flew out to the factory, made the final modifications, and started this venture, their third one, together.
It’s also worth noting that both founders’ parents have also faced similar issues, and are now happy users of the first product, the Bamboo Compression Gloves. Starting Uplief during the SG60 year is also particularly meaningful, and we look forward to playing our small part in doing something useful not just for our family, but also fellow Singaporeans.
